  7/13/2011 • Jerusalem

  JUNE 2011 ISRAEL NEWS REVIEW
  6/30/2011 • Jerusalem
This month’s news and analysis report, posted below, reflects the explosive situation in much of the Middle East, especially in nearby Syria. I examine the Golan Heights border clashes which left scores dead and injured in early June, plus the deteriorating situation in Syria itself and the prospects for more upheaval ahead. Failing Palestinian Authority attempts to form a new unity government with the rival Hamas movement are also detailed, along with news about the expected international flotilla sailing to the Gaza Strip later this week which could produce more casualties on both sides.
  PEAS IN OUR TIME
  6/15/2011 • Jerusalem
Click for a my satirical commentary based on an real life attempt to contact a South Florida congressional representative last week via the internet. Most of the details are true. It refers to my mugging there in April which I have written about elsewhere on my web site. Sometimes you just have to laugh, or you will cry!
  May 2011 Israel News Review
  5/23/2011 • Jerusalem
Click for the latest monthly Israel news summary report, written for the UK office of CFI and for all of you readers. It mainly deals with the very dramatic clashes along three of Israel’s borders mid-month, which left some 15 people dead and others wounded. I also examine the new Hamas-PA unity pact and the reaction in Israel to President Barack Obama’s controversial Middle East policy speech.
  April 2011 Israel News Review
  4/26/2011 • Jerusalem
Click for my Israel news and analysis report covering the most important news that occurred during April in Israel and the troubled region. The prospect that things could get entirely out of hand in several of Israel’s closest neighboring countries seemed to grow during the month, with potentially dramatic consequences. Closer to home, a major IDF military operation was almost launched in the Gaza Strip during the first half of the month as Palestinian rockets once again rained down upon Jewish civilian centers. For the first time, Hamas rockets struck the southern outskirts of Tel Aviv—an ominous development for sure.
  March 2011 Israel News Review
  3/28/2011 • Jerusalem
The peace of Jerusalem was temporarily shattered in late March when terrorists managed to launch a major attack on a crowded city sidewalk. The details are below in this month’s news and analysis report. With violent unrest still gripping much of the Middle East and North Africa, and in particular now spreading in a major way into Syria after Western nations began to enforce a no-fly zone in Libya, much of the March report looks at the escalating crisis in the region. The Palestinian rocket and mortar blitz upon many Israeli cities and towns over the past couple of weeks is also examined in detail, with a substantial IDF military reaction possible at any time if the firings continue. A potentially massive oil find in the Israeli Negev Desert is also detailed in this month’s news review—some good news amid the gloom.
  February 2011 Israel News Review
  2/21/2011 • Jerusalem
Click for my monthly news and analysis report covering the most important recent news from Israel and the very troubled Middle East. As you will expect, this month’s report focuses on the political upheaval now gripping many Arab countries and Iran. The situation is quite volatile, with the possibility that Bahrain might fall to anti-Western Shiite forces linked to Iran, which would be a major game changer in the region. Saudi Arabia might be next—with all that implies for world oil markets and the struggling economy
  CRISIS IN EGYPT
  2/7/2011 • Jerusalem
Several have written to ask if I would share my observations on the upheaval in Egypt and the region. Once again, the turbulent Middle East is at the center of world media attention, as happens periodically and will undoubtedly do so until the end of this era. The ripple effects from the current crisis will surely be enormous, so don’t expect this story to go away anytime soon. Please feel free to post this on other web sites and to publish it in other ways, with attribution.
  January 2011 Israel News Review

Click here for my Israel news review covering important developments which took place during January. However this month’s report mostly focuses on disturbing news coming from the wider region, particular the government crisis in Lebanon and spreading turmoil in several other Arab countries and in Iran. All of this has direct implications for Israel and for the future prospects for war or peace in the troubled Middle East.
