Jerusalem-based author and journalist David Dolan takes viewers of FOR ZION’S SAKE: REPORTING FROM THE LAND OF THE BIBLE on a stirring 33 minute journey through modern Israel—located at the geographic and spiritual center of the world.

Portions of the DVD were filmed from his apartment just south of Jerusalem’s walled Old City, with magnificent views of the Temple Mount, the nearby Mount of Olives and other biblical sites. The DVD cover photo of Jerusalem’s Mount Zion was taken from his apartment roof, located on the southern slope of the biblical Hinnon Valley.

The unique journey begins with a look at several ancient prophecies foretelling a worldwide Jewish ingathering to the Holy Land in the “last days” of history. Pointing out that modern science generally scoffs at the proposition that a divine Creator formed the universe; Dolan testifies that the literal fulfillment of the many ingathering oracles is a powerful testimony to the authenticity of the Hebrew Scriptures. He weaves in personal experiences from his youth, plus nearly 25 years working as a journalist in Israel, to make his thought-provoking case that Israel’s powerful God does indeed exist and was active in history, as He is today. The DVD illustrates this point with actual footage of Jews immigrating to Israel from the former Soviet Union, Ethiopia and several other lands.

FOR ZION’S SAKE also presents an overview of Israel’s short modern history utilizing actual news footage from the latter half of the 20th century. As with the immigration waves mentioned above, many of the stories were personally covered by Dolan while working for the American CBS Radio Network and other media outlets. Finally, the DVD presents viewers with a spiritual challenge to stand as “watchmen on the walls” of Jerusalem until the Messiah comes to rule the entire earth from the holy city.

In between the thought-provoking verbal presentation, For Zion’s Sake includes portions of seven Hebrew songs that Dolan has recorded with other singers in Jerusalem. The first song comes from his own cassette, titled Baruch Adonai (Bless the Lord), which has recently been digitally re-mastered and released as a CD (click the link on the top of this page for more information about it). The remaining songs are also from a newly re-mastered CD titled Gili Meod (Greatly Rejoice), produced by Jerusalem artists Barry and Batya Segal. David Dolan’s popular music cassette—recorded in Jerusalem over one decade ago—has just been digitally re-mastered, and is now available for purchase for just US $5.00!

Titled BARUCH ADONAI (BLESS THE LORD), the 35 minute CD contains ten songs, four of them written by Dolan. With lyrics mostly taken directly from the sacred Hebrew Scriptures, eight of the songs are in English, one in Hebrew and one a mixture of both languages.

The first five songs feature worshipful lyrics focusing on the sacrificial Lamb of God who has taken away the sins of the world. The popular Seh Ha Elohim—written by Dolan’s longtime friend and Jerusalem media colleague Shlomo Berger—was recorded for BBC television in the UK by an Israel-based choir that included Dolan, David and Lisa Loden, Ann Hilsden, Elisheva Shomron and many others.

The moving and highly acclaimed High Places, sung with Jerusalem worship leader Ann Hilsden, begins the last set of five songs, which are orientated toward exuberant praise of the Holy One of Israel. Randall Ford’s buoyant Praise Wings—with music recorded in Nashville--encourages listeners to soar with the eagles as they wait upon the Lord. Israel’s God is declared to be a Victorious Warrior in the next to last song, played on guitar by Dolan and Ford.

The final song, written and sung by Dolan and featured on his "FOR ZION'S SAKE" DVD, is the title cut of the CD, Baruch Adonai. Blessing Israel’s Sovereign Lord for creating the universe by the word of His mouth (Psalm 33:6), it then calls upon the nation to trust in the Eternal God (Psalm 131:3) and His anointed Messiah.
